Are you a vacation gambler? Let new site choose your adventure

Are you a traveler who likes to get comfortable with a destination, returning year after year? Do you already know where your travels will take you this year, next year and the year after that?

Then the concept behind a new travel sales website isn’t for you.

But if you like to live on the edge? Oh, yeah baby. This one could be right up your alley.

A friend tipped me off to GetGoing.com last week and I expected it to be a variation on the theme of booking sites ranging from oldsters like Kayak to newcomers such as Hipmunk.

What I found? Oh, my.

It’s a wonderland of possibilities if you’re one of my fellow travelers — the type who doesn’t get too worked up if tonight’s hotel — or even town — isn’t firmed up yet.

It works like this: Enter your home airport, then choose your travel dates and make a choice a list of possible destinations or types of vacations. The categories are broad — Europe, South America, History & Culture and so on.

GetGoing brings up a list of 10 destinations and prices (think Glasgow, $987, Barcelona, $1,222, etc.). You select the destination, price and flights you like (or tell it to give you prices for a destination of your choice).

Then, you do it again with another list.

And that’s when the magic happens. You click your mouse a few times and … GetGoing.com tells you which of the two vacations it just booked for you. Dublin or Rome? Bangkok or Shanghai? Surprise!

What’s in it for you — other than thrills? Discounts, which airlines can offer because you’re not being choosy.

I’ll be bookmarking this one.
