Benik will sit out another series for SCSU

St. Cloud State freshman wing Joey Benik will sit out this weekend’s series against Colorado College. He has not played a game this season. Benik suffered a broken leg the first practice of the season. Earlier in the week, the Huskies were proceeding as if Benik would be in the lineup this weekend.

“He’s not been cleared yet,” Huskies coach Bob Motzko said.

Medical personnel have to clear players for contact and game action before they can play in games. The Huskies have next weekend off. The next possibility of Benik joining the lineup will be the nonconference series against RPI on Dec. 27-28 at the National Hockey and Event Center.

Here are the probable lines for the Huskies for Friday:

11-Kalle Kossila 19-Drew LeBlanc 22-Jonny Brodzinski
10-Ben Hanowski 26-Nic Dowd 13-David Morley
27-Nick Oliver 8-Cory Thorson 21-Brooks Bertsch
18-Garrett Milan 16-Jimmy Murray 17-Joey Holka
LD RD Goalies
28-Andrew Prochno 14-Nick Jensen 29-Ryan Faragher
7-Kevin Gravel 12-Ethan Prow 35-Rasmus Reijola
4-Taylor Johnson 40-Tim Daly 33-Joe Phillippi

About Mick Hatten

I cover St. Cloud State hockey and I am a general assignment reporter for the sports department at the Times. 2012-13 was my third season covering the Huskies hockey programs. My wife Kristin and I have two boys (Luke, 5, and Josh, 3) and we live in St. Cloud. I have had two stints working at the Times. I worked here from 1986-91 as a part-time sports reporter and intern. I have been back since Aug. 1999. I spent one year as the prep sports coordinator, six years as the St. Cloud State reporter (football, men's and women's basketball and everything else but hockey) and spent four years as the Citizen Times editor. The last two years, I was also the editor of the Rocori Times and Sauk Rapids-Rice Times sections, which are mailed directly to people in those two school districts. Follow me on Twitter at or on Facebook at I do online chats about college hockey during the season from 1-2 p.m. Thursdays at
