Brainerd sports editor writes poignant column

Mike Bialka is the sports editor of the Brainerd Dispatch. He’s really good at what he does and I consider him a friend. His holiday column in the Dispatch this week got me to thinking about why all the Christmas cheer has been muted.

He mentions all the recent tragedies, from Officer Tom Decker’s death in Cold Spring, to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown to the two deaths in Little Falls to the death of Alex Langer. Langer was a Brainerd resident and the brother of Royalton’s Jim Langer, the Hall of Fame football player who played center for the Miami Dolphins.

That’s a lot to digest in a short amount of time and Mike’s having a hard time with it.

Me too. I don’t have any more answers than Mike does. I’d just like to see it all end. Any suggestions? I’m more than willing to listen at this point.
