Grammy winners Okee Dokee Brothers to play two free shows at State Fair

Grammy Award winners the Okee Dokee Brothers will play two free shows at the Minnesota State Fair this summer. The kindie music duo will perform on Aug. 24 and 25 at the Family Fair State in Baldwin Park.

The duo made up of Joe Mailander, a St. John’s University graduation, and Justin Lansing picked up a win for Best Children’s Album for “Can You Canoe?”

“We create an alternative to hyperactive music and give some more organic songs for their ears and brains.”

Recording industry acknowledgment is a happy result.

“It wasn’t our goal,” Mailander said, but the group put some work into promoting the album.

“(The Grammy nomination) was just a nice by-product of making kids music,” he said, before the winners were announced.
