Hello everybody from a sunny Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wis.
I hear the drums of the Blugold marching band out in the parking lot below the field – a sure sign that kickoff between St. John’s and Wisconsin-Eau Claire is just less than an hour away.
This is the Johnnies fifth trip to Eau Claire since 2000, but today marks the first time they will play an afternoon game here. Temperatures in the 70s are expected, but it could get warmer on the field as the sun beats down on the artificial turf playing surface.
St. John’s is trying to avenge a 47-19 loss to the Blugolds last season and head into next week’s MIAC opener against St. Thomas on a strong note. Wisconsin-Eau Claire is coming off a 27-24 loss to the Tommies at home last week in which the Blugolds let an 11-point lead slip away in the final four minutes.
I will be keeping tabs on all the action on Twitter. You can follow along at @rajko1973, or simply by clicking the live coverage link on our web site at www.sctimes.com.
I’ll have updates here at halftime and afterward.
Let the game begin …
