Greetings from Claire Lynch Hall

Greetings once again from Claire Lynch Hall on the campus of St. Benedict on a fairly warm first of December afternoon in St. Joseph.

The Blazers (1-0 MIAC, 3-1 overall) play the second of three straight home games when they tip off against Gustavus (1-0, 2-2) just minutes from now.

Will be interested to see if St. Benedict senior Whitney Canton can string together a second straight impressive performance. Canton had 15 points in a win over Hamline Wednesday, just two days after sitting out against Wisconsin-River Falls because of soreness as she continues to come back from serious knee surgery last March.

I’ll also be interested to get a look at the Gusties under new coach Laurie Kelly, who has replaced longtime coach Mickey Haller. Kelly was a former standout at St. Thomas and previously was the head coach at Division I Northern Arizona.

The Johnnies, meanwhile, look for their first win of the season when they play at Gustavus at 3 p.m. in St. Peter.

I’ll have updates here at halftime and afterward. In the meantime, for more updates, follow along on Twitter at @rajko1973.
