Greetings from Claire Lynch Hall

OK, I’ve sort of been operating on an exclusive Twitter basis lately and neglecting the blog.

But that changes starting now … as I have arrived at Claire Lynch Hall to cover St. Benedict and Bethel as MIAC hoops action resumes post-holiday break.

The Blazers are 4-2 in MIAC play and 6-3 overall. The Royals are 0-5 and 1-7, but that lone victory came Sunday against Hardin-Simmons in San Antonio.

Freshman post Rachel Parupsky is averaging 14 points per game for Bethel and has four double-doubles, including two in the last two games. St. Benedict will start a freshman of its own against the 6-2 Parupsky. She would be 6-6 first-year Sydney Hughes out of Olympia, Wash.

Hughes is making just her second start of the season. Junior wing Brianna Barrett has led the Blazers in scoring in the past five games before Christmas.

Meanwhile, in Arden Hills, the Johnnies return to conference play against Bethel and forward Taylor Hall, who is tied for the MIAC scoring lead.

Updates live on Twitter at @rajko1973, and I’ll have more here at halftime and afterward.
