Greetings everyone from a gray and largely empty Clemens Stadium where St. John’s is less than an hour away from playing host to Carleton in MIAC play.
The Johnnies, of course, are trying to snap the first four-game losing streak in a single season at the school since 1930 in a week in which retirement rumors in regard to St. John’s head coach John Gagliardi have gained circulation.
Gagliardi shot them down, at least those that had him on the verge of announcing anything about his future over the team’s bye week next week. But it’s been another distraction in a long season for his team.
Past history would suggest the Knights offer the Johnnies a good chance to get back on track. Carleton is 0-29 all-time against St. John’s and interim head coach Bob Pagel told me this week he was down to 45 players in practice due to injuries and illness.
But his team is 3-2 and coming off a 21-20 nonconference win over Macalester last week. And St. John’s has been hit hard by injuries as well.
So we’ll see. You can follow along with all the action on our live coverage link on the front page of this website, or on Twitter at @rajko1973. I’ll be back here with updates at halftime and afterward.
