Greetings from Royal Stadium

Hello everybody and welcome to a gray and somewhat rainy Royal Stadium where kickoff between St. John’s and Bethel is less than 45 minutes away.

Obviously, a lot of attention focused on this game due to the speculation over whether of not St. John’s coach John Gagliardi will decide to retire,  which would make this the final game of his 64-season college coaching career.

But, for Bethel, there are playoff implications. Though the Royals have two losses, the landscape is a bit more friendly for a two-loss team to earn an at-large bid to the Division III playoffs. So Bethel remains on the bubble, but that bubble would burst with a loss to the Johnnies.

Connor Bruns starts at quarterback for St. John’s in place of injured freshman Nick Martin (who had taken Bruns’ place when Bruns separated his shoulder against Concordia). Martin left last week’s win at Hamline with a high-ankle sprain.

The Johnnies (5-4) need a win today to match last season’s 6-4 record and avoid the first .500 finish at the school since 1986.

I will have updates here at halftime and afterward. In the meantime, you can follow along on the live coverage link at or on Twitter at @rajko1973
