Greetings from Sexton Arena

Greetings from high atop Sexton Arena where St. John’s (1-2 MIAC, 1-4 overall) is set to host Macalester (0-2, 3-3) in MIAC men’s basketball action.

The Johnnies are coming off a 66-65 loss at Carleton Monday in which they overcame an 18-point deficit in the second half to take a two-point lead late but could not hold on. They are back at home for the first time since a season-opening loss to St. Cloud State on Nov. 16 – having played four-straight games on the road.

They are playing without promising freshman Joe Risinger, who is on crutches. Johnnies coach Jim Smith said he turned an ankle in warm-ups prior to a win at Gustavus Saturday.

Macalester, meanwhile, has two more wins (3) than it had all of last year (1). Senior Pierce Peters leads the way with an average of 20.2 points per game.

Tip-off will be a few minutes late of the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start because the JV game prior ran long.

St. Benedict is on the road at Macalester tonight at the Leonard Center in St. Paul.

I’ll have updates here at halftime and again afterward. In the meantime, follow along on Twitter at @rajko1973.
