The St. John’s football team pulled double duty for the first time this preseason Friday, practicing 90 minutes in the morning and again 90 minutes this afternoon at Clemens Stadium.
I was not at the morning session – having been in Becker working on prep football preview stuff, including an interview with Bulldogs quarterback Tommy Benson, another grandson of Johnnies coach John Gagliardi.
But I was on hand this afternoon as temps warmed up in Collegeville. Both the morning and afternoon session featured the first 11-on-11 work of the season, including for about the final 25 minutes this afternoon.
A few other notes:
* There was a scare this morning when freshman defensive lineman Jordan Jacox suffered a possible allergic reaction and was taken to the hospital. However, he was back watching practice this afternoon after being treated.
He said what caused the reaction is still unclear. But doctors said he could likely return to practice Saturday.
* Among those sitting out Friday were running back Harry Awe (hamstring), wide receiver Rob Voshell (lower back bruise) and cornerback Alex Powell, who was taking precautionary measures with a hamstring.
* The team is scheduled to practice just once Saturday – at 9:30 a.m. Sunday’s practice is scheduled for 7 p.m.
