O’Grady among NCAA’s most dominant wrestlers

St. Cloud State senior wrestler Shamus O’Grady is listed as the most dominant wrestler in Division II so far this season.

The NCAA released the initial standings for the most dominant wrestler awards and the second round of standings for the most falls and tech falls in Divisions I-III. These awards are presented in March.

In the most dominant standings, O’Grady has a Division II-leading average of 4.8235 points. This week, a minimum of 13 matches is required to be eligible. That required match total will increase by one per week until 18 matches is reached.

The standings are calculated by adding the total number of points awarded through match results and dividing that by the number of total matches wrestled. Six points are awarded for pins, wins by forfeit or injury defaults. Five points are awarded for tech falls, four for a major decision and three for a decision.

O’Grady is 26-1 this season and ranked No. 2 at 184 pounds. SCSU 157-pound freshman wrestler Clint Poster is No. 4 on the most dominant list with 4.1176 points.
