The Paramount Theatre announced free workshops with Jeremy Messersmith, Caroline Smith and Red House Records in November. The panels will discuss the music business with topics including how to create a sustainable career, grant writing for individual artists, how to tour and promote your music independently, as well as songwriting tips and advice.

Caroling Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps, Heather Allen from the Central Minnesota Arts Board, and Allen Stanley of Red House Records will speak at 2 p.m., Nov. The even till be moderated by Chris Osgood, of Springboard for the Arts, McNally Smith College and part of the seminal rock group Suicide Commandos. Topics will include grant opportunities for independent musicians, the pros and cons of finding a record label, how to tour and promote music independently and answer audience questions.
Musician Jeremy Messersmith will have a workshop on songwriting, his inspirations, motivations and methods at 3:15 p.m., Nov. 10.
