The confirmed number of St. Cloud State football recruits has risen to 12.
McHenryCountySports.com reported over the weekend that Marian (Ill.) Central High School defensive lineman Liam Kirwan has made his verbal commitment to the Huskies.
Kirwan will sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday. Kirwan is a 6-foot, 255-pounder who also had offers from Robert Morris, Minnesota State-Moorhead and Indianapolis. He also had preferred walk-on offers from Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.
“It was an all-around good fit,” Kirwan said to McHenryCountySports.com.
Kirwan will join a former high school teammate on the Huskies in wide receiver C.J. Price.
“I’m looking forward to being there the next four or five years,” Kirwan said.
The Wisconsin verbal commitments for SCSU include offensive/defensive lineman Bryce Johnson of Beaver Dam High School (Wis.), quarterback Ben Diedrick, running back Donte Starlin-Merriam, defensive end David Maule, Green Bay Preble offensive lineman Alex Heimerman, Fon du Lac offensive lineman Ben Maruska, Wisconsin Lutheran linebacker Eric Marshall, Milwaukee King defensive back/returner Keyshawn Davis and Sussex Hamilton defensive back Jake Knueppel.
The other non-Wisconsin commitments for SCSU include Grant Lewis, a 6-foot-8, 268-pound offensive lineman from Sioux Falls Washington High School in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Brett Wainwright, a 5-9, 160-pound wide receiver from Oswego, Ill.
