SCSU football ranked 18th; Moro receives weekly honors

The St. Cloud State football team moved up to No. 18 in the latest AFCA Division II poll that was released Monday aftenroon.

The Huskies, who are 4-0 for the first time since 2005, were No. 20 last week. SCSU downed Augustana 31-6 Saturday night at Husky Stadium.

SCSU takes its undefeated record on the road for a game at No. 11 Minnesota-Duluth at 1 p.m. Saturday. UMD is coming off a win over Wayne State (Neb.) this past Saturday.

MSU-Mankato stayed ranked at No. 2 in this week’s poll.

St. Cloud State senior safety Jack Moro was named the NSIC defensive player of the week and the Beyond Sports Network’s defensive player of the week for his three-interception game against Augustana.

Moro tied the school career record of 19 interceptions with the performance. Dan Neubauer (1977-80) had previously held the record.

All three of Moro’s interceptions came in the first half Saturday. He has five for the season and leads all of D-II in that category. It was the third time in Moro’s career that he’s had three picks in a game. Moro led the country last year with 11 interceptions.
