SCSU women’s basketball team falls at UMD, 57-50

DULUTH – The St. Cloud State women’s basketball team went 2 of 17 from beyond the arc and finished shooting 31.4 percent from the field in a 57-50 NSIC loss at Minnesota-Duluth Tuesday night.

The Huskies (7-3 NSIC, 11-3 overall) fell into a first-place tie in the NSIC North Division with the Bulldogs (7-3, 10-4) after the setback. It was the second straight loss for the Huskies where they have struggled with their shooting.

St. Cloud State shot 1 of 11 from three-point range in the second half alone. UMD outrebounded the Huskies 43-28 and won despite having 30 turnovers.

Nicole Anderson was the only player in double figures for SCSU with 11 points, six rebounds and six steals. Jessica Benson and Sam Price each had nine points for St. Cloud State. Price went 2 of 10 from the field and Benson was 2 of 7.

The Huskies led 29-28 at the half, but were outscored 29-21 in the second half. The Bulldogs went on a 16-2 run to start the second half.

Katrina Newman’s double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds paced the Bulldogs while Alyssa Kerkhoff added 11 points and six boards.

UMD shot 44.2 percent from the field and 2 of 7 from three-point range. UMD is undefeated at home this season with a 7-0 record.

SCSU is host to MSU-Mankato at 6 p.m. Friday at Halenbeck Hall.
