SCSU wrestling team ranked 4th in poll

The St. Cloud State wrestling team was ranked fourth in the preseason Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll that was released Wednesday.

The Huskies had 138 points in the poll. Two-time defending national champion Notre Dame (Ohio) was first with 156 points, Nebraska-Kearney was second (151 points) and Central Oklahoma was third (145 points).

St. Cloud State has finished in second place at the D-II national championships for three straight years.

Individually, Andy Pokorny was ranked second at 133 pounds in the preseason poll, Matt Nelson was fourth at 141, Clint Poster was third at 157 and sophomore Gabe Fogarty was fifth at 165.

Pokorny is a two-time All-American while Nelson, Poster and Fogarty all earned All-America status last season. The Huskies enter the season on a 47-match winning streak. St. Cloud State opens the season Nov. 8 with the Black/Red Classic at Halenbeck Hall.

Husky Basketball Showcase set for Oct. 29

The St. Cloud State men’s and women’s basketball programs will host a showcase at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Halenbeck Hall.

The teams will be introduced and the Husky Sports Band and cheer team will be on hand. Both teams will scrimmage there will be a celebrity lightning contest, a three-point contest and a men’s dunk exhibition.

Dollar popcorn and hot dogs will be served up by Sodexo. In addition, fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for a local food shelter.
