The St. John’s football team was picked to finish fourth in the MIAC preseason coaches’ poll released Thursday.
The Johnnies, who finished 6-4 a year ago, received 46 votes in the poll and no first-place votes. Defending champion St. Thomas was picked to finish first. Bethel was picked to finish second and St. Olaf was picked to finish third.
The complete poll is as follows:
1. St. Thomas (8 first-place votes) 64; 2. Bethel (1) 52; 3. St. Olaf 48; 4. St. John’s 46; 5. Concordia 37; 6. Gustavus 28; 7. Augsburg 26; 8. Carleton 15; 9. Hamline 8.
This is obviously the lowest I’ve seen the Johnnies picked in the poll since I started covering the beat in 2000.
Our own MIAC previews will start here on the blog Saturday.
