St. John’s senior running back Steve Johnson has beennamed as one of 147 finalists for the 2012 William V. Campbell Trophy (formerly the Draddy Trophy) and is a candidate for the 2012 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards.
Schools get one nominee each. Candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, be a first-team player or significant contributor and demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship off the field.
Johnson, who has been a four-year fixture in the Johnnies’ backfield, worked on the plans to build a water transport system and greenhouse in Yambiro, Ecuador during this past spring semester 2012.
He is one of two players from the MIAC to be honored by the NFF. Bethel linebacker Gavin Maurer is the other.
