Good evening everybody. The Johnnies practiced again Thursday afternoon at Clemens Stadium, less than 48 hours in front of the season opener Saturday against Northwestern.
Not much news on the injury front. As I reported earlier, tackle Jack Hedlund (bruised collarbone), running back Harry Awe (hamstring), cornerback Alex Powell (shoulder) and wide receiver Ben Krebsbach (hamstring) have all been back in practice this week and are available to play Saturday (Hedlund is the only starter in that group).
Defensive tackle Nate Blenker, who has been out for about a week-and-a-half after taking a blow to the head, has been cleared to resume contact and saw limited time in practice Wednesday. But he will not play on Saturday.
Just an update on an earlier post on temporary bleachers. Bleachers are once again being set up in front of the hill to the right of the main grandstand.
Now, on to some changes here on the blog. Because we are harnessing the power of Twitter to provide live game coverage on our web site at sctimes.com, I will not be posting updates after each quarter here on the blog. All that will be available in the live coverage link on the front page of our web site. Just click there and join in. Or follow along on Twitter at @rajko1973. Either way will get you all the updates.
I will still try to post a first-half recap, and a brief recap afterward. And, of course, Behind the Numbers will still run here each Saturday night following games.
As for the game previews, the preview boxes that used to run in the newspaper on Saturdays are no more. Instead, they will be replaced by an actual game preview story (the story that used to run here on the blog). So, here on the blog, I will now post the starting lineups for each team and some pertinent statistical information each Friday.
So, to sum up, look for game previews on the main sports page and in the print newspaper on Saturday, look for lineups here, and follow along live in games on our Web site (www.sctimes.com) or on Twitter at @rajko1973.
