St. Catherine 40, St. Benedict 30 (H)

Halftime at Claire Lynch Hall where the Blazers have looked about as cold as the weather outside.

St. Benedict began the game 0-for-10 from the field and fell behind 8-3 before hitting four straight – including a pair of 3-pointers from Morgan Dale – to take a 16-14 lead.

But from there, the Wildcats embarked on a 10-0 run and haven’t looked back. They led by as much as 12 – ay 40-28 – before a pair of Tish Alexander free throws just before halftime cut the gap back to 10.

The Blazers finished just 9-for-29 (31 percent) from the field in the first half. St. Catherine was 15-for-25 (60 percent).

Gabby Zehrer had 18 points to lead the Wildcats. Brianna Barret had nine and Dale had eight to lead St. Benedict, which also finished 9-for-15 from the free throw line.

The annual boy-girl dance featuring the Blazer dance team and assorted Johnnies is now going on below me.

So there’s that …
