The Johnnies opened up a 17-4 lead and led 26-9 before the Scots finally reached double figures with 6:11 to play in the first half.
Freshman Mitchell Kuck has led the way with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Junior Jack Wittenborg has eight. St. John’s was 20-for-36 (55.6 percent) from the field as a team. Macalester – which started 1-for-12 – was just 7-for-25 (28 percent). The Johnnies also own a 23-12 edge on the boards, despite being called for eight fouls against Macalester’s two.
The Scots – who have been playing without leading scorer Pierce Peters – were led by senior forward Sam Marshall’s seven points.
